There are numerous films in this genre that have managed to pull off this idea with more flair and creativity, leaving Paradise Beach striving for paradise but clutching at disappointment instead. To be fair, there are some nice artistic shots late on involving characters fading from a photo but beyond that, this French picture feels like it’s going for a particular tone and doesn’t quite pull it off.Īs a Friday night flick, Paradise Beach is unlikely to scratch that action-thriller itch. From the dialogue switching between French and English, sometimes in the same conversation, across to fading edits and long musical montages that feel like music videos, Paradise Beach attempts to emulate the style of Fast and the Furious without the charisma or chops to pull it off. Paradise Beach offers up some bizarre stylistic choices too. It doesn’t help either that early on the film does little to really build empathy with this group of characters. This is stressed numerous times and unfortunately the film falls into the classic trap of failing to “show don’t tell”. Along the way, Paradise Beach is quick to dump exposition on us, explaining on several occasions that Mehdi has been in prison and how dangerous he is. In terms of plot development and pacing, Paradise Beach sticks to all the usual formulaic beats, leading up to a suitably predictable ending. ABC has finally confirmed the first contestants who will hit the beach in Bachelor in Paradise, but a cast member has a problem with his official photo. Unfortunately his share of the money has gone and in order to get it back, he upsets the delicate balance the group have been enjoying all these years and causes hell to break loose. After enjoying a heady cocktail of drink and half-naked girls dancing, he soon learns that all is not what it seems. From here we jump forward to his release, as he flies out to Phuket and reunites with his comrades. As the police arrive on scene and our robbers make haste with the cash, Mehdi is the unfortunate casualty and spends 15 years in prison. The story begins with a heist gone wrong. This action thriller has enough meat to its plot for you to see it through to the end but the formulaic manner the film achieves this, complete with its anguished protagonist and questionable aesthetic cues, make this a film that fails to really hit the mark. Paradise Beach is a French film set in Southern Thailand featuring a mixture of French and English dialogue. And if you are at the beach during sunrise, nature will put on an amazingly colourful show, a feast for your senses.A Disappointing, Formulaic Slice Of Action On a perfectly bright day, you will enjoy various shades of blue stretching to the horizon and beyond. Perch yourself at a good spot on the sand and munch on a few of these local snacks while gazing out at sea. You may find few vendors on the beach selling hot 'bhajjis' and coconut water or soft drinks. Kick off your sandals and walk the length of the beach But Mehdi wears a stern expression suggesting that there’s something on his mind. The fabled soft sand of the beach makes it the ideal place to play sports. Hicham has a wife, two kids, a private driver, a rich father-in-law and what appears to be a comfortable life. Once you reach the beach, it is a beautiful spot to play beach football, cricket or volleyball with your friends. As you approach closer to Paradise beach, the dark blue water of the Chunnambar river can be seen entering the sea at the 'sangamam'. Especially after a spell of rains, the forest of mangroves on the river banks become a lush green blanket of leaves. You will find many inspiring sights to capture even throughout the boat ride to the beach. The beach is truly a paradise for people who love landscape photography. The travellers can try fishing as well: fishing rods and nets are easily available for rent. A variety of water sports facilities are available here as well. Paradise beach is a great spot to reach early morning and get a view of the sunrise on the eastern coast. The currents in the water are high, so it is advisable to not go deep in the water. You can spot a lot of birds while on the ride - and photography enthusiasts would relish the opportunity to get some great photos here. Especially after the monsoons, the backwaters are fresh and green. Part of the fun in reaching the beach is the beautiful ferry from the boathouse - the backwaters on the way to the beach are green and have thick mangrove forests. There are a few shacks along the main entrance to the beach, and you can get fresh coconut water and some simple snacks - don't expect any fancy street food though. To reach here, you have to take a ferry across the backwaters, which takes around 20-30 minutes. Adorned with the golden sand, this is a little-isolated beach. Paradise Beach, also known as Plage Paradiso, is situated in Chunnambar, close to Pondicherry town.
